Things That Make My Life Easier: Jott

Call a number to leave a message for yourself to remind yourself to do something…

This is appealing because….?

That was my first impression of Jott when I read about it on one of the marketing blogs. Nevertheless I am not one to let a technology pass me by without trying it out so I signed up for it.

Jott makes my life easier because sometimes I don’t have my small notebook with me and I come up with an idea. Normally I type it in my phone’s notebook but then I forget to go back and look at it. With Jott, I call an 800 number, leave a message for myself and it shows up in my email as text with a link to the voice message. I can also have it sent to my phone as a text message and if it’s a future to-do it allows me to set a date and time for reminding.

There are also ways to Jott to your blog, Jott to Amazon, Jott to Twitter, and a variety of other Jott to’s that I will probably never use.

I’ve read some concerns from people who didn’t appreciate that Jott uses a combination of live transcriptionists and voice recognition software. Normally I am a privacy freak but it doesn’t bother me if someone listens to my Jotts as I don’t plan on using it for anything dirty. Actually I would think that they used software more than people because the text to my most recent Jott is not even close to what I said. Here’s a sample:

I said: This is biased. They could have tried harder to find a positive spin on the issues

It wrote: I felt disbaised(?) and they could have tried how to expand a positive [...] on the issues

All in all it’s a useful service if you get a lot of ideas while you are on the go. However, if you can remember to bring it, a pen and paper would work just as well.
