Yup, that's pretty much how it is.

My mom laughs at me when I tell her about the work at home mom groups I'm in. She doesn't understand they are basically my only choice.

Thanks for the link to my "Myths" -- and yes, I agree that the work-at-home woman does not have much of a place. Actually, I quit my job to start my own business before we had kids -- and I did not do it to have kids, but because I wanted to start my own business & set my own hours.

It seems like the "mom" part is an easy reason to give the working world. Like it's okay to quit you job to stay home & work with kids, but to just quit you job to work at home is weird? Hum.

Hey, great post! I started working at home about 2 months ago after leaving my job. Nobody seems to understand, but I love it! I'm not even a mom! (yet) I just can't stand sitting in an office all day making someone else rich then coming home and being exhausted!

Oh well, hope I don't have to give it up!

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, I sometimes wonder why there are so many work at home mom groups but no groups that brand themselves as being for work at home women. I understand niche marketing but sheesh!

Your post can't be stressed enough! You strike me as the kind of woman that has gone past worrying what other's think, but needed to vent. You and I and about a million other people know that most people working outside the home for an employer would sooner be working for themselves with some flexibility to work out of the home, should that be their choice.

The reality is most people can't AFFORD to strike out on their own, which is perfectly valid, or they fear they haven't got what it takes to make it on their own. Either way, no one is wrong, we just all have choices to make. We should make it without the spewing the doubt/regret/negativity on others.

Congratulations on your home business and I agree with you about the myth that all work at home women are moms. Sounds like a perception that needs to be corrected :)

Glad I found your blog - I'll be back!

Due to the holidays I got a little taste of what people really think I do. The answer is nothing, lol. There are quite a few people who think that it must be nice to be able to sit at home all day and do nothing while my husband works. The holiday season stopped me from responding in a way that I normally would.

Hi DJ!

Your post is right on target. I constantly have people who are surprised that I'm not available during the day because I have to work. (I guess they think that my work does itself???) I never had this trouble when I had a traditional corporate job.

I don't even own a Chia pet!!!
